Itinerary
Settle into this charming alpine town at the edge of Triglav National Park — thermal spa, traditional architecture and the gateway to the Julian Alps.
Your first day of true mountain biking, from Bohinjska Bistrica to Podbrdo, takes you on a scenic adventure through the heart of the Julian Alps. The route winds along forested trails and gravel paths, crossing a 1,200-metre pass. Along the way, you’ll be treated to views of alpine valleys and the Sava Bohinjka River. You’ll spend the night in a small, tranquil mountain village.
A true mountain biking adventure awaits! Ride along former Italian military roads, known as mulatiera, deep into the heart of the Julian Alps, following the narrow, canyon-like valley of the Bača River. Continue your journey towards the emerald-green Soča River on the western side of the mountains. In Tolmin, you can also make time for an optional visit to Tolmin Gorges.
Continue biking high above and along the Soča River, passing through historic areas that saw fierce First World War battles, remembered in Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms. Along the way, look out for the impressive Boka Waterfall before arriving in Bovec, surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps.
Cycle through the Upper Soča Valley into Trenta, accompanied by the river’s famously turquoise waters. Challenge yourself with the ascent of Vršič Pass, reaching a height of 1,611 metres amid dramatic mountain scenery. End the day with a descent to Kranjska Gora, one of Slovenia’s best-known alpine resorts.
Follow the Radovna River through a quiet valley between the Mežakla and Pokljuka plateaus. Traditional farmhouses and mountain scenery offer reasons to pause before the climb to Pokljuka. Finish the day among the forests of the plateau, your base for the final stage back to Bohinj.
A memorable final ride awaits: descend towards the Bohinj Valley through alpine pastures, with views of the Julian Alps you have just circled.
The tour ends after breakfast in Bohinjska Bistrica. Continue independently or reserve one of the optional private transfers listed below.
