We design self-guided cycling tours in Slovenia with luggage transport, GPS routes and 24/7 local support

Cycling Holidays in Slovenia

Cycling holidays in Slovenia combine Alpine scenery, quiet country roads, crystal-clear lakes, wine regions and the Mediterranean coast within remarkably short distances. For cyclists, this means something special: in a single holiday you can ride through landscapes that feel completely different from one day to the next.

We are a local Slovenian team and we design, ride and regularly check the routes ourselves. Our self-guided cycling holidays include carefully selected accommodation, luggage transfers, GPS navigation and local support, so you can concentrate on the ride while we take care of the logistics.

Find Your Cycling Holiday in Slovenia

There is no single best way to cycle Slovenia. Some riders want relaxed days on cycle paths and quiet roads, others prefer mountain passes, gravel tracks or forest trails. Our tours cover a wide range of cycling styles and difficulty levels.

Touring Cycling

Our classic touring trips are designed for cyclists who want to experience Slovenia at a comfortable pace. Daily rides combine dedicated cycle paths, quiet local roads and scenic countryside, with time for lakes, historic towns, food and local culture.

Road Cycling

For riders looking for longer distances and more climbing, Slovenia offers outstanding road cycling. Alpine valleys, mountain passes and quiet regional roads provide challenging rides without losing the pleasure of travelling through the landscape.

Gravel Cycling

Slovenia is particularly well suited to gravel bikes. Forest roads, compact gravel tracks and quiet secondary roads make it possible to explore areas that conventional road tours often miss.

Mountain Biking

Our mountain bike holidays explore Slovenia beyond the paved road network, combining forest tracks, mountain landscapes and carefully selected trails. Route choice and difficulty vary considerably, so choosing the right tour is important.

Short Cycling Trips

If you have only a few days, our shorter cycling holidays offer a concentrated taste of Slovenia. They are also a good choice for travellers combining cycling with a longer European holiday.

Why Cycle Slovenia With a Local Operator?

A route can look perfect on a map and still be unpleasant to ride. Traffic, road surfaces, construction works, steep gradients and seasonal changes can completely alter the experience.

That is why our routes are not designed only behind a computer. We ride them, check them and adjust them when conditions change. This first-hand knowledge helps us choose roads and trails that make sense for the type of cyclist using them.

Our self-guided tours typically include:

  • carefully planned and regularly checked cycling routes;
  • GPS navigation and detailed route information;
  • luggage transfer between accommodations;
  • selected cyclist-friendly hotels and guesthouses;
  • local support during your trip;
  • bike and e-bike rental options on many tours.

When Is the Best Time for a Cycling Holiday in Slovenia?

The main cycling season runs from spring through autumn, but conditions vary considerably between regions.

April and May are excellent for lower elevations, the wine regions, Karst and the coast. The landscape is green, temperatures are generally comfortable and visitor numbers are still relatively low.

June brings long days and good conditions throughout most of the country, including the Alpine regions.

July and August offer reliable summer weather, although lower areas can become hot. Alpine routes are particularly attractive at this time.

September and early October are among our favourite periods for cycling in Slovenia. Temperatures become milder, tourist traffic decreases and the landscape gradually changes into autumn colours.

Where to Cycle in Slovenia

The Julian Alps and Lake Bled

The north-west is Slovenia’s best-known cycling region. Lake Bled, Bohinj, Kranjska Gora and the Julian Alps combine dramatic mountain scenery with an increasingly good network of cycling routes.

Ljubljana and Central Slovenia

Slovenia’s capital is small enough to explore easily and is surrounded by surprisingly rural countryside. Several of our tours use Ljubljana as a natural link between the Alpine region and southern Slovenia.

Wine Country and Rural Slovenia

Rolling landscapes, vineyards, small towns and quiet roads make Slovenia’s wine regions ideal for relaxed touring and gravel cycling.

Karst and the Adriatic Coast

As you travel south-west, Alpine landscapes gradually give way to limestone Karst, vineyards and Mediterranean vegetation. Reaching the Adriatic by bike is one of the great contrasts of a cycling holiday in Slovenia.

Which Cycling Holiday Is Right for You?

The best tour depends not only on fitness but also on the kind of riding you enjoy.

If you prefer relaxed sightseeing and moderate daily distances, choose one of our classic touring holidays. Riders looking for greater distances and climbing should consider our road cycling tours, while gravel and mountain bike trips are better suited to cyclists comfortable away from paved surfaces.

E-bikes are an excellent option for couples or groups with different fitness levels and for riders who want to enjoy longer or hillier routes without turning every day into a physical challenge.

Routes We Know First Hand

One of the advantages of travelling with a local cycling specialist is that our knowledge does not stop at the itinerary description. We regularly ride sections of our routes ourselves and use what we learn to improve future tours.

For example, we recently rode the improved Bled–Bohinj cycling connection again to see how the new infrastructure changes the experience for our guests. Route checks like this help us decide which roads to use, which alternatives to avoid and which bike is best suited to a particular trip.
