The Soča Valley Cycling Short Break is a 5-day self-guided journey from Bovec to Solkan, created for guests who want to experience the emerald river and its surrounding landscapes without committing to a full cycling week.
Three moderate cycling stages connect Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin and the lower Soča Valley. Along the way there is time for Boka waterfall, Kozjak waterfall, Kobarid's First World War heritage and the Tolmin Gorges, with two nights in Tolmin keeping the pace relaxed.
Quiet valley roads and daily distances of approximately 30–40 km make the tour well suited to leisure cyclists, couples and e-bike riders. Luggage transfers, accommodation, digital navigation and local support are arranged as part of the package.
Itinerary
Arrive in Bovec, the outdoor centre of the upper Soča Valley, surrounded by the high peaks of the Julian Alps. After checking in, explore the compact town and enjoy the first views of the valley.
The day is intentionally relaxed, allowing time to settle in, prepare the bikes and become familiar with the digital route information.
Ride down the quieter southern side of the Soča Valley, passing the powerful Boka waterfall before continuing towards Kobarid. An optional walk leads to the hidden Kozjak waterfall, while the town itself offers the award-winning First World War Museum and Napoleon Bridge.
Continue through Ladra and Kamno on peaceful valley roads to Tolmin. The turquoise river remains close throughout much of the stage, with numerous places to pause for views and refreshments.
Today’s circular ride explores the quieter side valleys around Tolmin. Pass through Ljubinj and Podmelec, then follow the Bača Valley towards Most na Soči, where the emerald Soča and Idrijca rivers meet.
Return to Tolmin and leave the bikes for a walk through the dramatic Tolmin Gorges. The combination of moderate cycling and a natural attraction makes this a relaxed but rewarding day.
Follow the Soča downstream past Most na Soči and the stone-built town of Kanal. As the valley widens, alpine scenery gradually gives way to the warmer, more Mediterranean landscape of the Goriška region.
The stage finishes in the Solkan and Nova Gorica area near the famous stone railway bridge. Riverside sections and changing vegetation make the final ride noticeably different from the upper valley.
The tour ends after breakfast in Solkan / Nova Gorica. Continue independently or reserve one of the optional private transfers listed below.

Getting to Bled
By plane: closest airport is Ljubljana (LJU). Several airlines serve it. From the airport you can travel to Bled by bus (change once, takes about two hours) or book our transfer: Ljubljana Airport to Bled (faster – 20 min) – please check here below.
By bus: Flixbus lines stop at Lake Bled.
By train: Bled has two railway stations: Lesce-Bled station on the Villach – Ljubljana mainline, 4 km away from town center, need to take a bus or call us, we’ll give you a lift for free. The other is station Bled-Jezero on the Jesenice – Nova Gorica sideline, only a few trains a day.
By car: take exit Lesce on the A1 motorway Ljubljana – Jesenice, Karavanke. Please consult us about parking options.
