The Soča Valley Cycling Short Break is a 5-day self-guided journey from Bovec to Solkan, created for guests who want to experience the emerald river and its surrounding landscapes without committing to a full cycling week.
Three moderate cycling stages connect Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin and the lower Soča Valley. Along the way there is time for Boka waterfall, Kozjak waterfall, Kobarid's First World War heritage and the Tolmin Gorges, with two nights in Tolmin keeping the pace relaxed.
Quiet valley roads and daily distances of approximately 30–40 km make the tour well suited to leisure cyclists, couples and e-bike riders. Luggage transfers, accommodation, digital navigation and local support are arranged as part of the package.
Itinerary
Arrive in Bovec, the outdoor centre of the upper Soča Valley. The town is surrounded by the Julian Alps, river valleys and mountain scenery. After check-in, take time to explore the centre, relax after your journey or prepare for the first cycling day.
The first ride follows the upper Soča Valley from Bovec towards Kobarid and Tolmin. From Bovec, the route descends towards the Soča River and continues on a quieter, more remote road on the southern side of the valley.
You ride towards the impressive Boka Waterfall before a short section on the main road leads towards Trnovo ob Soči. The route then returns to smaller side roads and continues along the river valley towards Kobarid. Near Kamp Lazar, you can take an optional walk to Kozjak Waterfall, one of the most popular natural sights near Kobarid.
In Kobarid, take time to discover the town’s First World War heritage, Napoleon Bridge and the scenic Soča gorge. The final part of the ride continues through Ladra, Kamno and Volarje before reaching Tolmin, your base for the next two nights.
Today is a shorter loop day around Tolmin. The route leads towards Podljubinj and Ljubinj, then continues to Podmelec and follows the Bača Valley towards Most na Soči. The area around Most na Soči, where the Soča and Idrijca rivers meet, is a relaxed place for a coffee stop or short break by the water.
After returning towards Tolmin, continue to the entrance of Tolmin Gorges. Leave the bikes safely and explore the gorges on foot. The walk through narrow passages, bridges and clear water makes this one of the natural highlights of the tour.
The final cycling stage follows the Soča River downstream from Tolmin towards Solkan. The route first leads towards Most na Soči, then continues in the direction of Kanal and the lower Soča Valley. Much of the stage uses cycle-friendly route sections and quieter roads.
As you ride south, the scenery gradually changes from alpine valley landscapes to the softer Goriška region. The tour finishes in Solkan, near Nova Gorica, close to the famous Solkan railway bridge over the Soča River.
The tour ends after breakfast in Solkan / Nova Gorica. Continue independently or reserve one of the optional private transfers listed below.

By plane: closest airport is Ljubljana (LJU). Several airlines serve it. From the airport you can travel to Bled by bus (change once, takes about two hours) or book our transfer: Ljubljana Airport to Bled (faster – 20 min) – please check here below.
By bus: Flixbus lines stop at Lake Bled.
By train: Bled has two railway stations: Lesce-Bled station on the Villach – Ljubljana mainline, 4 km away from town center, need to take a bus or call us, we’ll give you a lift for free. The other is station Bled-Jezero on the Jesenice – Nova Gorica sideline, only a few trains a day.
By car: take exit Lesce on the A1 motorway Ljubljana – Jesenice, Karavanke. Please consult us about parking options.
