Itinerary
Your adventure begins in Bled, one of Slovenia’s most iconic destinations, renowned for its glacial lake, cliff-top castle, and charming island church. Upon arrival, check into your centrally located 4-star hotel, such as Hotel Lovec, which offers comfort with traditional alpine charm. After settling in, enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake to absorb the first impressions of this stunning alpine town.
No visit to Bled is complete without tasting the famous Bled cream cake (“Kremšnita”). Treat yourself on a sunny terrace, perhaps at the Park Hotel, and enjoy the view of the castle reflected in the emerald waters of the lake. This is a perfect introduction to your cycling tour Slovenia, combining natural beauty, history, and culinary delights.
Start your first day with a gentle ride around Lake Bled, ideal for warming up and soaking in the scenery. Ride along the lakeshore and make your way up to Bled Castle, perched dramatically above the lake. Explore the castle’s medieval museum, learn about its rich history, and step onto the terrace for panoramic views of the lake, island, and surrounding mountains.
Next, take a ride in a traditional Pletna boat to visit the island church. Ring the church bell, a centuries-old tradition believed to grant wishes, and enjoy the peaceful ambiance. For the best photographs, hike up to Osojnica viewpoint, offering the most iconic view of Lake Bled, the castle, and the Karawanke Alps—a memory you won’t forget.
Begin your day at the foot of the Jelovica High Plateau, with stunning views into Triglav National Park. The morning light casts a golden glow over the alpine meadows, making this part of your cycling tour Slovenia magical.
Your first stop is Kropa, Slovenia’s historic blacksmith town. Visit the Iron Forging Museum to see traditional techniques in action and try making your own nail. Continue to Radovljica, a well-preserved medieval town with charming streets and historical architecture. Here, the Beekeeping Museum showcases Slovenia’s rich apiculture tradition. Don’t forget to enjoy ice cream at a local shop before heading back to Bled. On the return route, a short detour to Sobec camping site allows you to cool your feet in the pond and relax amid nature.
Today, cycle to the sunny village of Begunje, birthplace of the renowned Slovenian folk musician Slavko Avsenik. Stop at Avsenik Gostilna for lunch and immerse yourself in the local musical heritage.
Afterward, visit the Museum of Hostages, which tells stories of turbulent times in Slovenian history. Continue to the ruins of Kamen Castle, perched above the valley, offering spectacular views. On the way back, stop at Brezje Basilica, a major pilgrimage site surrounded by tranquil alpine scenery, perfect for reflection and photography.
Start your day at the Pokljuka Gorge, a hidden natural gem formed 10,000 years ago. Here, leave your bike behind and walk through ancient forests and fossilized ravines shaped by retreating glaciers.
Next, ride to Vintgar Gorge, a breathtaking canyon carved by the Radovna River, culminating at Šum Waterfall. Wooden walkways allow you to explore the gorge safely while immersing yourself in its natural beauty. A short detour to St. Catherine’s Church for lunch offers a panoramic view of Bled Castle, combining culinary delight with incredible scenery.
Take a short car transfer to the top of the Pokljuka High Plateau, where your ride begins into the Bohinj Valley, one of Slovenia’s most scenic alpine regions. Cycle through picturesque alpine villages and past traditional Slovene hay racks, pausing to admire this centuries-old architectural heritage.
Arrive at Lake Bohinj, a pristine alpine lake often considered the hidden gem of Triglav National Park. Enjoy a serene ride on the lake by electric boat from Ribčev Laz, reflecting the surrounding peaks on its crystal-clear water. Return to Bled along the newly constructed Sava River cycleway, a scenic and safe route offering stunning views of Slovenia’s alpine landscapes.
Cycle through the tranquil Radovna Valley, nestled between the Jelovica and Pokljuka plateaus, toward the foot of Mount Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia. The valley is dotted with WWII monuments and traditional farmhouses, some converted into small museums. One such farmhouse has even been visited by Prince Charles, reflecting the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Enjoy lunch in the shadow of Mount Triglav, surrounded by alpine meadows and breathtaking mountain views. Continue through peaceful forests, alongside crystal-clear streams, and past small, idyllic villages that have retained their charm for centuries.
After breakfast, your cycling tour Slovenia concludes. You may choose to extend your stay in Bled to explore further or embark on another self-guided tour, such as Lakes & Cities or Best of Slovenia, continuing your discovery of Slovenia’s spectacular landscapes, historic towns, and cultural treasures.
