An Epic MTB Journey Around Triglav National Park
This immersive 8-day mountain bike loop leads you through the very heart of Triglav National Park and the Julian Alps. Beginning and ending in the Bohinj Valley, the route unfolds over mixed terrain — forest paths, rugged singletracks, and quiet country roads — weaving across alpine meadows, deep river valleys, and historic mountain passes.
Each stage offers a new highlight: sweeping panoramas, remote pastures, and storied landscapes shaped by both nature and history. Along the way, you’ll follow the emerald Soča River, climb the legendary Vršič Pass, and experience the timeless rhythm of mountain villages.
The tour is designed for mountain bikers eager to explore Slovenia’s most iconic alpine landscapes. It blends scenic trails, serene nature, and meaningful encounters with the country’s mountain heritage — all supported by comfortable hotels, daily luggage transfer, and GPS navigation.
Itinerary
Bohinjska Bistrica is a charming alpine town at the edge of Triglav National Park, near Lake Bohinj. Known for its thermal spa, traditional architecture, and access to outdoor sports, it serves as a gateway to the Julian Alps.
Your first MTB stage leads from Bohinjska Bistrica to Podbrdo, crossing a 1,200 m pass via forest trails and gravel paths. Enjoy views of alpine valleys and the Sava Bohinjka River. Overnight in a tranquil mountain village.
Ride historic mulatiera military roads through the Bača River valley, then follow the emerald Soča River into western Slovenia. Weather permitting, take a swim at the Bača–Idrijca confluence. Visit the Tolmin Gorges in the evening.
The highlight stage! Ride high above the Soča River, passing WWI battle sites remembered in Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms. Stop at the spectacular Boka Waterfall before arriving in Bovec.
Follow the Upper Soča Valley into Trenta and tackle the legendary Vršič Pass (1,611 m, 50 hairpins). A thrilling descent leads into Kranjska Gora, Slovenia’s most famous alpine resort.
Ride along the Radovna River valley, stop for lunch in a traditional farmhouse, and see one of the oldest Slovene trees. Continue climbing to Pokljuka Plateau and overnight at Goreljek Sports Center.
Finish with a long descent into the Bohinj Valley, crossing alpine pastures with sweeping views of the Julian Alps.
After breakfast your tour concludes in Bohinjska Bistrica. Depending on your travel schedule, you may wish to enjoy a final visit to the thermal spa, take a short stroll along the Sava Bohinjka River, or simply relax with a coffee in town before continuing your onward journey. Private transfers to Ljubljana, the airport, or other destinations can be arranged on request.
